When to go to the emergency room
- Swelling that spreads to the eye, under the jaw or into the neck, or that affects breathing or swallowing
- Bleeding that does not stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure
- A suspected broken jaw, or a blow to the head with loss of consciousness
- High fever with facial swelling
